Hyperion Planning

Hi,

There is a good news for Hyperion learners.

Oracle has come up with a series of Oracle by examples(OBE) for Hyperion Planning as well as other components on its website.

For understanding the concepts of Hyperion Planning, Please take a look at
Learn Hyperion Planning.

Oracle is putting lot of efforts in making learning easier and available to everyone.

Go, explore the links mentioned above and you will find lot many other tutorials.

If you do not find something you want, just wait for some more time and it will be there soon.

Cheers.

This is great. But, I think a better format of tutorials would be like how MSFT performancepoint (their EPM solution) folks do:

http://www.microsoft.com/business/performancepoint/learning/training.aspx

A corresponding tutorial list for hyperion planning would be:
1. modling the application, creating dimensions, and cube.
2. Data loading
3. Creating data forms
4. Creating a workflow process based on a data form
5. A budgetign process of review, accept of a budget
6. Running some business rules on the dataform.
7. Finally writeback

Thanks, This would be just awesome.

Hi,
very much true and thanks for posting this link.
No doubt Microsoft has no match when it comes to GUI and end users interface and features.
I hope Oracle will try to come up with something like this.

Hi Manohar,

Is it possible if you can give a tutorial of how to do planning in their EPM solution. Especially the sample planning application that they provide. Especially how to create a workflow process, how to write the data back etc.

Thanks,
Sandipto

Hi Manohar,

We want to migrate from hyperion 9.3.01 to 9.3.1
Request you to provide the risks ,prerequisite, migration steps involved.

Thanks,
Saroja

Hi,
Sandipto- All I have are Oracle internal documents which I cannot share. However I will try to come up with a detailed tutorial for this.

Mahesh- I never thought of this. I will check on this but at this point I don't think this can be done. I will surely check. Thanks. Also can you post why you want to perform this. I mean what is the scenario and need.

Saroja- My first suggestion would be if you can hold for another few months and better migrate to 11.
At this point of time many customers are migrating because they are on pre system 9 and Oracle is not going to support them. But you are already on system 9 and if you don't have any major issues. 9.3.0 and 9.3.1 does not have much differences. Still if you plan to migrate, migration would be smooth and simple. I will try to find some document for this and let you know soon.

Hi Manohar!
I am an administrator managing the hyperion BI tool for interactive reporting and analysis. We are going from 9.3.0 to 9.3.1 on hyperion. I would like to inform my users of any particular differences/changes int he new version compared to the older one.
You help would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi Juzer,
There may not be any changes from 9.3.0 to 9.3.1.
I did not come across such situation before. But I can suggest two things.
1. Just look at 9.3.1 new features document and see what features you currently don't have.

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/hs_new_features.pdf

2. If you are not in a hurry or do not have an immediate need to go to 9.3.1, take a look at 11.1.1.1
This release came after 11.1.1 and has substancial bug fixes and can be considered pretty stable.

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/hs_new_features/hs_new_features.html

Hope this would help a bit.

Hi,

Teradata has a feature called querybanding that basically allows name/value pairs of metadata to be applied to SQL that gets logged in the database. This information is stored with the query in Teradata catalog tables to facilitate identification, performance monitoring, etc. I was informed yesterday that all of the big BI players know about and were supposed to incorporate support for this feature.

I would like to know if the support for this feature is currently available in our version of Hyperion. If it isn't then it would like to know what release they plan to put support for it and how they plan to implement it. The goal is to be able to tag queries coming from users in the server environment with information such as their PIN, Application Name, etc. If it is available, if you could pass along documentation I would appreciate it.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Manohar Singh Rana said...

Hi Juzer,
Yes this information will be useful for shared services too.
Take a look at this post as well where I have shown Application migration wizard in shared services console.
http://businessintelligencedw.blogspot.com/2009/02/essbase-application-migration.html

About your teradata question, I don't have any clue as of now. Will try to find out but cannot commit. If you get any info, please let me know as well.

Hi,
Kumar Nagaraj- Yes you can use Migration wizard in EAS to migrate applications from 9.2.0.3 environment to the 9.3.1 environment located on some other server. For that you will have to first create an Essbase server instance on the source machine i.e 9.2.0.3 for the 9.3.1 instance by providing the 9.3.1 server name and port number. This migration will not migrate the cube data. Export it seperately and then import. You can also refer the link mentioned in the above comment.

Sounder- Welcome to Hyperion. Read the blog postings thouroughly and try to understand. Merely reading real time questions won't help.

Xiaolei Wu- I wont be much help on this.

Manohar Rana

Hi,

Can the HFM and Planning applications on 9.2 version be migrated into a newly installed 11.1.2 Hypeiron environment? The reason for not doing a in-place upgrade has been to do the clean install and optimize the intall and configurations..

Any help would be appreciated...
