Hyperion Interactive Reporting Disadvantages

There are some points which I found Interactive reporting lacks as compared to Qlikview.
This would help users who are evaluating IR and Qlikview.

1. To create a selection box (or LOV) and link it to report objects in the dashboard, we need to write some script and cannot be done with drag and drop features. You can do this using Dashboard studio using wizards but the way you do it in Qlikview is just amaging and even users without having any knowledge of the tool can do it in few seconds. Though in version 11, Oracle has introduced some charts and slider which can be interlinked to see the data changing but needs lots of improvements. Hyperion Web Analysis has this feature present.

2. The way we can do what-if analysis in qlikview with the help of slider and variables is really quick and effective. Nothing of that sort can be done in Interactive Reporting. But the concept is IR is not made for that purpose. The way to do this is Essbase to which we cannot just compare Qlikview.

3. To create pivot reports with member showing(+) sign to further drill down and (-) sign representing the last member is not possible in IR. Qlikview can do this very well.

You can create reports in Hyperion IR client studio which is a windows client component. Then you can publish these reports in Hyperion Workspace which is a pure web client.
You can also create reports in Hyperion Webanalysis which is also a web client.
You need to install foundation (includes shared services)components of version 11 and Hyperion IR client.
You have not provided any details of your version.
Search the blog to know the architectre.

HI,
How much SQR does one need to know to develop reports in IR? What can you do in IR with SQR ?
Excellent blog by the way.

Hi Kamran,

I dont think IR has anything to do with SQR. I think in IR you can create hyperlinks to call sqr reports. I never thought on this. But surely to know IR, SQR is not required.

Dear Manohar
any reporting tool has two sections
one for administration and one for making reports
I want to know which type is this?
is this similar to discoverer tool?
Can this be hooked up with SSO?
Can we get reports from BPEL using this?
What is the advantage of this over the discoverer tool?
In advance I appreciate your help
All the best,

IR 11 can do sliders and other features that Qlikview has but it requires scripting and it is not pretty nor necessarily easy to do.

Keep in mind that IR11 is more of an Adhoc reporting tool. You can build one-off queries with IR11 much faster than Qlikview.
